The 7.62x51mm short-stroke gas piston FN SCAR 20S is a 40.6” to 42.5” long AR-type modular semi-automatic built around a 20” long barrel. Capacity is 10+1, and overall weight is 11.2 pounds.
Slightly unusual is the overall design. It has a hard-anodized extended monolithic upper receiver made of aluminum that enshrouds the top of the lower receiver and most of the barrel. It’s crowned by an integrated MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny accessory rail that runs the entire crest. At 3, 6 and 9 o’clock, the gun has Picatinny rail sections transforming FN SCAR 20S into a quasi-quad rail. The two flank rails have 20 slots! The one underneath has over 30. The heavy profile free-floating barrel is cold hammer forged and chrome-lined. It’s threaded and comes standard with a triple-pronged muzzle brake.
FN SCAR 20S features an ambidextrous safety lever and an ambidextrous magazine release, making it usable by all. Also, the charging handle can mount to either side.
The gun is equipped with a refined two-stage Geissele Super Scar match trigger. This sits in a large glove-friendly rounded corner trigger guard.
The butt stock has an adjustable cheek piece and is thus adjustable for both comb height and length of pull. The MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny accessory rail under the stock’s bottom is a thoughtful touch. In back is a thick, contoured, rubber buttpad. The grip is a three finger groove Hogue rubber grip.
